Angel-Condal-Goma, Program Coordinator
Angel is a native of his deeply loved Catalonia. Angel has extensive experience managing the design process and teaching Spanish to others. His professional work in the United States as a designer spans over 25 years. Angel is passionate about design and enjoys exploring and engaging with architecture and the city as a learning lab.
Angel believes design and art are an emotional experience, one that requires working diligently and carefully listening with keen observations. His passion for Catalan arts and culture touches and inspires all that those he meets.
Michael-Joseph-Eichhorn, Instructor
Michael's professional and teaching experience is extensive and spans the architecture, cultural, and art instruction fields. He has worked in international architecture for over 20 years and has owned his own architecture and design firm. Michael has collaborated with international firms of Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue in Barcelona, as well as Skidmore, Ownings & Merrill in Chicago.
His area of expertise is architectural hand drawings, color rendering, Gaudi, and the teaching of design and visioning creativity courses.
Pia-Wortham, Instructor
Pia believes that to be present in one's own life is to observe, draw, and reflect upon spaces, events, and one’s decisions - increasing artistic vocabulary, celebration of details, and fulfillment of ideas. Pia studied at Tufts University, Boston, and after worked with Ezio Sgrelli Architects, Milan and with Enric Miralles, Barcelona. She attained Masters in Architecture at Columbia University, New York. She founded Callís Wortham, Barcelona, with Joan Callís, winning high design accolades at the Spanish Biennial of Architecture.
Pia has won the Library Prize at Festival of Artists Books. Her works have been exhibited in Europe and US and are in the collection at Library of Cantabria. She teaches advanced bookbinding workshops in the Design College Elisava, Barcelona.
Marc-DeRooij, Guest Instructor
Marc believes architecture drives our well-being, mood, and neurological influences. He currently teaches materials, technology, design and adaptability at the Product and Interior Department of the School of Design ESDI, Barcelona.
Marc brings a superior level of academic achievements: Master of Science in Architecture, Delft University, Netherlands, and studies at Center for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad, India. He obtained postgraduate degree at the SERT School of Barcelona and Doctor of Architecture at Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He co-founded the architecture office BE+R, Barcelona and is design partner at BRTArchitecten, Netherlands. Marc has been awarded cross-continental top design accolades from Visual Arts Amsterdam, Cantu, Italy, and Osaka, Japan.

The Design Institute of Barcelona, Inc., is an independently operated education company founded by a group of Gaudi experts, architects, and artists. The Institute is founded with the goal of design education with a Gaudi focus and cross-disciplinary approach. DIBCN provides instruction focused on innovative professional development, artistic skill formations, and inspiring individuals to value their lifelong learning.

Q: Will I have any free time to explore?
A: Yes! You are free to go out on your own after instruction times. We are happy to point you in the right direction for evening and weekend events, entertainment and cuisine. Explore and open your heart and mind to new people and places. Viva Barcelona!
Q: Can I bring my smart phone or cell phone?
A: Yes! You must bring your own smart or mobile phone and have it setup prior so it can be used in Spain. Or you can purchase one in Spain that has a local calling and data plan. It shall be the responsibility of each student to have a cellular phone for safety purposes. This phone is to be turned on and carried. The cost of these phones is not included in fee.
Q: Is there Internet access?
A: Yes! You will have wireless Internet access at your residence and classrooms. There are WiFi hotspots throughout the city. You may also tether to a mobile smart phone with has a data plan.
