Training wheels for online research.
Teaching children to access information online is as important today as teaching the content itself. Finding websites about first and second grade curriculum topics that are written on first and second grade reading levels can be challenging. Adding the words "for kids" to your search terms will yield sites that are written at fourth or fifth grade level at best, and younger students can do little more with these sites than look at the pictures. SlideKids was created to meet the challenge of online research for the lower grades. The slideshow format was specifically chosen because children can read and process small pieces of information at a time as they advance through the slides, rather than face the discouragement of whole paragraphs and pages of text. SlideKids is not intended to be a comprehensive source of information. Fundamental facts are presented for each topic for a grade-level-appropriate integration of technology skills with classroom learning. SlideKids is ideal for use with lower grades, ESL, and EC students.
Feedback from parents and teachers is valuable to us. We welcome comments, questions, and requests for slideshows on additional topics. Please see our Contact page.
