JUNIOR PROGRAMS

SDTA Junior Programs for all levels of Development & Competition

Founded in 1996, SDTA has become one of the elite tennis academies in the southern region. Over the past 25 years, we have developed many state & southern champions as well as players reaching the top 10 in the US. Our coaching philosophy is based on helping young players reach their maximum potential as people through commitment and excellence in tennis. At SDTA we offer many services in order to help players reach their goals, whether is to become an advanced competitive junior at the southern & national level looking for a college scholarship or a player aspiring to make their local high school tennis team. At SDTA, taking players' game to a higher level is what we are all about. Depending on which "High Performance " group level of play a student is placed on, we focus on the following aspects:

  • Fundamentals of modern technique and movement
  • Singles and doubles strategy & on-court awareness drills
  • Mental/Emotional control discussions
  • Tennis specific physical fitness
  • Tournament coaching assistance for an extra fee. Weekly supervised competition match play
  • Private and semi-private lessons available

SDTA at Harrison Tennis Center focuses on year-round training and the program consist of different levels of competition:

  • SDTA Peak Performance Training Group (Home-school/Early-release)
  • Home School/Early Release only (4 days per week)

Our Stephen Diaz Peak Performance Group is by selection only and it is for the advance and highly self-motivated dedicated player looking for more hours of commitment and competition in order to be well prepared for college tennis and beyond. Players in this group are mostly well ranked in the state, south, and in the nation. The majority of players are in an early release or home-schooled program through their respective schools. The program includes:

Cost: call for options and current monthly rate

  • 12 hours of high-performance weekly training including physical/tactical/match play/fitness/mental
  • Directed by USTA/USPTA certified High-Performance coach Stephen Diaz
  • Tournament coaching assistance available for an extra fee at various State & Southern championships
  • Private lessons available - not included in training fee (highly recommended)

Under the direction of USTA High Performance Certified coach Stephen Diaz and coach Aaron Krisan. In the past 12 years, this group has produced three of the last four boys 18's southern # 1"s and national champions including Hunter Reese (Tennessee Vols 2011) Elliott Orkin (Florida Gators 2013), and McClain Kessler (Florida Gators 2015) and top girls Emma Kurtz (Vanderbilt Commodores 2017)McCartney Kessler (Florida Gators 2018) among many other top southern and national players.

SDTA 18 & Under High Performance Championship Group (After school)

After School Program (3 days per week)

This group is for players that compete in high-level state and sectional tournaments but prefer less hours of training and are not homeschooled. Ages range from 14-18 and players must commit to the full 3-day program.

  • 5 hours of weekly physical/tactical/on-court awareness training
  • Complimentary 2hr. match play weekly
  • Directed by USTA/USPTA certified High Performance coaches Stephen Diaz & Jason Patti
  • Excellent coach/student ratio
  • Tournament coaching assistance available for an extra fee

2021 Fall/Winter/Spring Season Schedule (August-May)

  • Mondays & Wednesdays 5:30-8:00pm
  • Fridays 5:30-7:30pm

SDTA Middle School/High School Preparation Training Group 93 days per week)

This group is specifically for students looking to improve their level of play in singles and doubles in order to be better prepared for their respective JV & V tryouts. it is a very popular group with students truly enjoying playing, learning and competing. The training consists of:

  • 4 hours of weekly physical/ technical/tactical training
  • Complimentary 2hr. weekly match play
  • Directed by USPTA-USPTR certified coaches
  • Excellent coach/student ratio

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:00-9:00pm
  • Saturdays 11:00am-1:00pm

SDTA High Performance Challenger Group (3 days per week)

This group is for players ready to step up their game and hours of practice. Most students at this level are competing in level 4 and higher tournaments. Student ages range from 12 to 15.

  • 5 hours of weekly physical/ technical/tactical top-notch training
  • Complimentary 2hr. match play weekly
  • Directed by USTA/USPTA certified High Performance coaches Stephen Diaz & Jason Patti
  • Excellent coach/student ratio
  • Tournament coaching assistance available for an extra fee

SDTA Futures Developmental Training Group (3 days per week)

This group focuses on giving students ages 9-12 the best start into learning the proper fundamentals of technique, body movements and ball control in a team-oriented fun environment.

  • Includes 4 hours of the weekly premier coaching
  • Complimentary 2 hr. match play weekly
  • Directed by USPTA-USPTR certified experienced coaching staff
  • Excellent maximum of 6 students per coach ratio
  • Kids will learn proper footwork and ball tracking skills
  • Latest modern tennis teaching techniques
  • Stroke production/Racket & ball control skills

2021 Fall/Winter/Spring Schedule

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:00-7:00pm
  • Saturdays 9:00-11:00am

SDTA 10 & Under Developmental "Little Rookies" (2 days per week)

This group is for students ages 7 -10 that starting to pick up the game of tennis. It focuses on teaching the most basic fundamentals of technique.

  • Learn basic ball tracking /racket and ball control skills
  • Fun/learning/development/competitive environment
  • Directed by USPTA certified experienced coaching staff
  • Excellent maximum of 6 students per coach ratio
